The course aims to acquaint students with television as a means of communication and to understand the special rules of writing and presenting the news. The logic of sound and image, live news broadcast, storytelling, interview, journalism, television time, news presentation, preparation of the complete reportage package and the journalist's codes of ethics are analyzed in theoretical and practical level through theoretical lectures and laboratory exercises. In addition, the cultural, social and technological developments that have shaped and redefined the viewer's relationship with society are examined. 

Upon successful completion of the course students will be able to: 

  • Assess the social, cultural and technological developments that have contributed to the creation and evolution of television news 
  • Understand how to work ethically to seek truth, accuracy and fairness in writing and presenting television news 
  • Think critically and evaluate the importance of local, international and regional news 
  • Practice information retrieval and synthesis to prepare a coherent narrative with beginning, middle and end 
  • Develop skills for preparing and conducting a TV interview 
  • Utilize analytical skills in order to design and prepare the audiovisual content of a TV report
