Ο Γεώργιος Λάππας (PhD in Computer Science, MSc in Applied Artificial Intelligence) είναι Καθηγητής Πληροφορικής με έμφαση στις Κοινωνικές και Πολιτικές Επιστήμες. Είναι Πρόεδρος του Τμήματος, Διευθυντής του θεσμοθετημένου εργαστηρίου Ψηφιακών Μέσων και Στρατηγικής Επικοινωνίας, Αν. Διευθυντής του Διατμηματικού Μεταπτυχιακού Δημόσιος Λόγος και Ψηφιακά Μέσα, και μέλος της ΜΟΔΙΠ του Πανεπιστημίου Δυτικής Μακεδονίας.
Είναι συγγραφέας άνω των 90 εργασιών δημοσιευμένων σε Διεθνή Επιστημονικά Περιοδικά με κριτές (International Referred Journals), Πρακτικά Διεθνών Επιστημονικών Συνεδρίων με κριτές (International Referred Conference Proceedings) και Συλλογικούς Τόμους (Book Chapters). Έχει υπηρετήσει ως Μέλος Επιστημονικής Επιτροπής (Program Committee member) σε περισσότερα από 100 Διεθνή Συνέδρια, ως Μέλος Συντακτικής Επιτροπής σε Διεθνή Επιστημονικά Περιοδικά όπως Journal of Information Technology and Politics, International Journal of Entertainment Technology and Management, Journal of E-Government. Διετέλεσε από κοινού Πρόεδρος (co-chair) τριών Διεθνών Επιστημονικών Συνεδρίων, μέλος οργανωτικής επιτροπής 7 Διεθνών Επιστημονικών Συνεδρίων, Πρόεδρος Δημοσιότητας (publicity chair) 2 Διεθνών Επιστημονικών Συνεδρίων και Προεδρεύων σε ενότητες (session chair) σε πάνω από 20 Διεθνή Επιστημονικά Συνέδρια. Έχει διατελέσει Επιστημονικώς Υπεύθυνος και συμμετείχε σε πλήθος Εθνικών και συγχρηματοδοτούμενων Ευρωπαϊκών Προγραμμάτων. Τα κύρια ερευνητικά του ενδιαφέροντα εστιάζουν στον τομείς της Κοινωνικής Πληροφορικής (Social Informatics), Διαδραστικών Μέσων (Interactive Media), Ψηφιακού Μάρκετινγκ (Digital Marketing), εξόρυξης δεδομένων Ιστού (Web Mining), εξόρυξης γνώμης (Opinion Mining), Ηλεκτρονικής Διακυβέρνησης και Ηλεκτρονικής Δημοκρατίας (E-Government and E-Democracy)
