This module is organically linked to the module «Dissertation (1/2)». Together, these two modules make up an integral educational unit. Students are asked to design and conduct their own research study in the field of social sciences on a topic of special interest to them. Their study may be either bibliographical or empirical. Upon successful completion of the dissertation (Dissertation 1/2 and Dissertation 2/2), students will be able to: 

(a) formulate research questions and select appropriate methods for answering them validly and reliably, 

(b) search, identify, and use both Greek and international literature sources to theoretically frame their research, acquire the latest knowledge on the phenomenon under study, and identify gaps in the literature that their study can fill, 

(c) identify an appropriate target population and select a sample using scientific methods, 

(d) develop appropriate tools for collecting primary data (quantitative and/or qualitative) and/or use secondary data when these are accessible and deemed appropriate for the purposes of their study, 

(e) analyse data using appropriate techniques (statistical or qualitative) with the help of appropriate software, 

(f) write a report to present their research results, discuss these in the light of existing literature, and write their conclusions by following internationally accepted standards of academic writing,  

(g) responsibly apply national and international principles and codes of practice for ethical research, 

(h) understand and acknowledge the limitations of their study, as well as account for practical issues such as the feasibility of their project.
